₹3.7 crore found in frozen accounts as police intensify probe into Sabyasachi Dutta

The investigation into former Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation chairman Sabyasachi Dutta intensified after Bidhannagar Police froze five bank accounts belonging to him and his family. Investigators stated that the accounts contain a combined balance of approximately ₹3.7 crore. Among the accounts frozen is a joint account held by Dutta and his wife, Indrani Dutta. Authorities have restricted all transactions involving the accounts while examining the source of the funds as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police said the action was taken to prevent any movement of funds during the probe into allegations of corruption and extortion against Dutta. Investigators are scrutinizing financial records and banking transactions to determine the legal source of the deposits. The freezing of the accounts forms part of a broader financial investigation being conducted following Dutta's recent arrest in connection with the case.

At the same time, police have launched an extensive search for Indrani Dutta, who remains untraceable. Investigators informed the court that her questioning is necessary for the progress of the investigation. Raids have been carried out at locations linked to her relatives, including properties in Bangaon and Kalyani, as authorities attempt to trace her whereabouts and gather additional information relevant to the case.
